This Date in Baseball History--
-1900: The Phillies defeated the Braves 19-17 in 10 innings, the major league record for total runs on opening day. The Braves scored 9 runs in the 9th inning to send the game to extra innings.
-1938: Ernie Koy of the Dodgers and Emmett Mueller of the Phillies homered in their first major league at-bats during the first inning.
-1986: The Mariners and the A's set the major league record for total strikeouts in a nine-inning game, with 30 total strikeouts.
