This Date in Baseball History


-1914: At the age of 23, Roger Peckinpaugh is hired as the manager of the Yankees to finish the season.

-1924: Jim Bottomley goes 6-for-6, including two homers, and drives in a record twelve runs as the Cardinals defeat the Dodgers, 17-3. The previous mark of 11 RBIs in one game was established in 1892 by the day's opposing Dodger manager, Wilbert Robinson.

-1972: In an 18-5 victory over the Mets, Cub infielder Glen Beckert goes 0-for-6 and sets a record by leaving 12 men on base.
