This Date in Baseball History

-1955:
In an 11-4 win over the Phillies, Dodger pitcher Don Newcombe hits his seventh homer of the year, establishing a National League record for home runs by a pitcher in a season.

-1998: Giants outfielder Barry Bonds sets a new National League mark reaching base in 15 consecutive plate appearances. His five singles, two doubles, two homers and six walks during the streak broke Dodger Pedro Guerrero's mark of 14 established in 1983.

-1999: The Reds, by hitting five home runs in a 9-7 victory over the Phillies, establish a major league record homering 14 times in two games.
