-1917: Phillies pitcher Grover Cleveland pitches complete games in both games of a double-header, as the Phillies defeat the Dodgers 5-0, and 9-3.
-1981: The Red Sox and the Mariners play nineteen innings with a 7-7 tie. The game ends with the Mariners winning 8-7 in 20 innings when the game is resumed the next day, making it the longest game played in Fenway Park history.
-2001: On Labor Day, in just his 11th start, Cardinals' rookie pitcher Bud Smith no-hits the Padres, 4-0. The 21-year-old becomes the 18th rookie since 1900 to throw a no-hitter.
